1990 Volkswagen Golf MK2 GTI in Classic 'Jade Green' Bare Metal Repaint!

We’ve recently had the pleasure of completing a full bare metal repaint on this stunning 1990 Volkswagen Golf MK2 GTI, finished in its original and timeless ‘Jade Green’ colour.

The process began with a thorough decontamination wash to strip away any grime and residue. Once the surface was fully cleaned, we chemically removed the existing paint and took the car right back to bare metal. This critical step allowed us to assess the condition of the bodywork beneath the layers of paint, ensuring a clean and solid foundation. 

To our surprise, the steel underneath was in fantastic shape, remarkably well-preserved for a car of this age. Finding a 1990 Golf MK2 that doesn’t require any welding is quite rare, and this one was a perfect example of how well classic cars can hold up when properly cared for.

With only a few minor imperfections to correct, we moved on to straightening and refining the panels, and preparing the surfaces for paint!

Once the bodywork was perfected, we laid down a quality primer to seal and protect the metal, followed by careful surface preparation to ensure the colour coat would lay flawlessly. We then sprayed the car in its original factory shade of ‘Jade Green’, a colour that perfectly captures the retro character of the MK2 GTI.

After the paint had cured, we carried out a full wet sanding and multi-stage polishing process to achieve a perfect glass-like finish on the exterior.

Whilst re-assembling the vehicle we took the oppurtunity to detail clean all of the components and as well as fitting a complete original exterior decal kit, to give it that original factory-fresh appearance.

We are incredibly pleased with the results, it was immensely rewarding seeing the Golf MK2 return to it's original glory! The ‘Jade Green’ shines beautifully under natural light, highlighting every contour of this iconic vehicle!
